POSTPONED Go-ride hill climb challenge

Owing to a rotten forecast for this evening we’re postponing tonight’s hill climb … we’ll be in the school hall instead.

Next Wednesday (22nd March) we’ll be meeting in Brinsley for a Hill Climb … there are lots more details, including address etc in the Calendar.

We’ll have timekeepers and floodlights, and event HQ at the Barker-Pine residence (17 Hall Lane).

Seniors welcome to give it a shot! Should be time for 2 runs each if we’re speedy 😀

Crich Stand

Fancy a “hill climb”?

Crich Stand

Crich Stand

South Pennine RC’s Chris Storer needs more entrants for his Crich hill climb – here’s what he wrote in the South Pennine autumn newsletter – need to get on to it TODAY though (1 Oct) :

The new South Pennine Road Club Crich Stand Hill Climb

13th October 2013 at 11.00am

Just a reminder regarding the South Pennine inaugural open hill climb at Crich Stand. I have been eyeing up this gem for years and with a lot of support, help and advice from the club committee the event is now a reality. So far I have attracted some good support from local businesses, such as local cafes, the Green Man in Willington and Mercians in Derby.

If we look at what has been achieved at Monsall Head there is no reason why, over the years we cannot reach their level and create a classic. The climb, after very careful consideration and discussion, has been decided on a mere 800 yards, from the Cliff Inn pub to the summit of Crich Stand. The last 350 meters are closed road.

The aim is to attract all age groups and categories. In an ideal situation I would love to be in the financial position, where I can give a medal to all school children who finish. Also to provide an event that anyone can ride irrelevant of age and ability. We also aim to raise money for the upkeep of Crich Memorial Stand.

Another aim, like I said, is to create a classic and an event that will fly the flag higher up the mast than it already is for South Pennine’s ability to promote our favourite sport.

I will be printing off some flyers for folk to hand out at their weekend events. So please ask me for some. Put the word out. If anyone runs a business or knows of one that would like to contribute to a great cause, please contact me. Every little helps as they say.

Just as an update the club hill climb title will be run within the Crich Hill Climb. And just for devilment Mr Storer here, will be going off number one (please Sue) so for at least 45 seconds I get the course record.

Chris
