Podium for Oliver Bradley

The Bradley family took a trip to Ironbridge last weekend (2nd June) for a Summer CX race at the Queen Victoria CX at Blists Hill museum. Oliver Bradley took a place on the podium, finishing an excellent 3rd in his race and Ian Bradley took a nice 9th place in his race.

Hill climb challenge

Apologies for the delay in posting these – on Wednesday 15th July our young riders took on the slopes of Church Lane, Greasley! The climb, approximately 500m, was the first challenge for many of our young riders … and they were brilliant … though some of them probably enjoyed the down hill freewheel a little more!

25th April saw Jack Bradley race in typical Darley Moor conditions, cool, blustery and heavy showers!

Typical Darley Moor weather welcomed the riders tithe second round of races promoted by Ashfield CC. A fast pace race right from the gun saw the riders reach in excess of 40mph down the first straight with the wind behind them. The bunch stayed tight, with jack hoping to follow on from his excellent result at Mallory Park in a similar fashion rarely far from the front 6 riders.

A torrential downpour of rain and hail with 4 laps to go saw the race cut short, just as Jack was caught out by the wind and a sudden acceleration of the bunch, leaving him adrift of the main bunch. He tried valiantly to close the gap, but with laps running out he finished just short of the bunch. A creditable 12th behind the main bunch sprint.

Second day of a tough weekend – 26th April – for Joshua Giddings with the Derby Youth Omnium – the first real cycling event in the new Derby Arena – it was hot indoors and a very hard race.

We got to Derby early the first event was a 500m time trial I found this hard to keep on the black line but was fastest rider Event 2 was the elimination race I nearly got caught out when down to five riders but sprinted past Ben Chilton to put him out then got 2nd to a Halesowen rider Event 3 was a scratch race I was ok and got 2nd again to the same rider which meant he was now leading Event 4 was a Kieran race I loved this as they used the derny I got first draw and was sat behind the derny it pulled off with 1.1/2 laps to go and I went for it too win the Halesowen rider got 4th so I was in the lead by two points for the last race Event 5 was a points race with three sprints I was very tired and didn’t score in the first sprint but didn’t want to loose and won the next and second in the final one to get second in this race and win the overall omnium by one point.

CONGRATULATIONS JOSH!!

Results – Josh Giddings – Darley Moor 4 circuit race

On 24th April, Joshua Giddings rode the Ashfield Road Club Darley Moor 4 circuit race – taking another fine win in the U12s race.

Conditions were cold and windy and we got rained on for a few laps. A good field rolled away from the start, within one lap five of us broke away after constant attacks by the Bourne Wheelers rider we were down to four with on of my team mates Jack Brough, coming up the drag to the finish the Lichfield rider jumped first Jack responded and through the chicane we were side by side blocking the others and I sprinted hard for the win with a Jack 2nd so a Heanor 1 2 in the race I was very pleased for Jack!

Last Saturday Jack Bradley raced Lichfield CCC’s Curborough Sprint Series round 2 on a dry and sunny day with a blustery wind blowing up the home staight.

He came in 9th, in the main bunch sprint.

Dad, Ian Bradley reports: “Round 2 of the Curborough Series found much different conditions to round 1. As in the previous round, a fast start by eventual winner Ben Hardwick soon had the field strung out.The leading two soon broke clear leaving a large bunch to chase. A small group of 5 riders repeatedly tried to break away, but on each attempt the were pulled back by the bunch, with Jack working hard on the front to close the gap. But they continued to push and eventually broke away at half distance. Jack followed up a fine ride at Mallory n Tuesday, by taking the bunch sprint by half a wheel to finish 9th.”

Results – Jack & Ian Matlock Hilly TT

Friday 10th April saw both Jack and Ian Bradley attempt their first time trial. On Matlock CC’s hilly course from Cromford through Crich.

A lovely sunny spring evening on what turned out to be a very hilly course saw Jack take 2nd and Ian 4th.

A small field due to the Easter Holidays were soon under way from Cromford station, with all riders soon visible together on the climb through Lea Village. Jack had made up the two minutes on his dad and passed him as they climbed past the tramway museum. Being the only youth in a veteran field Jack came in 2nd with fantastic time of 20:48, behind the evergreen Chris Green who set a course record on the night. Ian came in 4th some 3 mins behind at 23:33, and very glad of the all downhill ride back to the start!
