On the 1st June 2013 some of Heanor Clarion’s youth riders represented the club in the East Midlands Regional Youth Championships at Barkston Heath.  As a team, they all put in a very impressive performance.  The highlights being Tom Wilkinson’s third place in the Under 12s, Jack Brough’s second place and Josh Giddings third place (both in the Under 10s).

20130601_100011In the Under 12s, Tom had to ride solo for most of his race having been caught out by an early break away but did extremely well to hold on to his position despite being chased by a group of four riders.  Carter looked comfortable at the start of the race but was caught at the back of the pack when it began to split which found him unable to bridge the gap.

In the Under 10s, Jack and Josh were left to chase Max Poole from Lincsquad who has been impressive all season.  In the early stages it looked like they may be able to catch up with the leader, but eventually he caught up with tail of the Under 12s race and sprinted home against Carter (who was somewhat distracted by a rabbit which wandered on to the track in front of him).  This left Jack and Josh to battle it out for second and third place with Jack finding some extra strength in the closing stages to grab the silver medal.

In the Under 8s, Brad was impressive as usual as he raced his mountain bike around a circuit against other kids on far lighter road bikes.

A huge well done to all of the riders who competed in this competition, they all did the club proud.20130601_124230
