Cyclo-cross

There’s lots of racing to be had as we head into Autumn/Winter 2015-16, including:

Cyclo-cross – Notts & Derby Cyclo-cross League

Cyclo-cross – West Midlands Cyclo-Cross League

Cyclo-cross – Lincolnshire Cyclo-cross

Go-ride indoors – rollers & turbos

Rollers

Rollers

After October half term the Go-ride sessions will go back indoors at Aldercar (the Seniors may continue to ride out for a few weeks longer … we’ll see how hardy they really are!). So from Wednesday 4th November we’ll be indoors … all are welcome!

To ride indoors you need a clean bike, sense of fun and if you can a set of rollers or a turbo trainer – tho’ if you’re waiting for Father Christmas to bring them then we may be able to find a loan set!

Cyclo-cross coaching November 2015

We’re hoping to continue coaching cyclo-cross through November – Wednesday at Aldercar (Go-ride and Seniors) and in Shipley Park (Seniors and accompanied, experienced Juniors only) on Thursday.

October Half Term

As a club we’ll take a break for a week over half term – so there will be no Aldercar session on Wednesday 28th October – however, the British Cycling coaches will be running Holiday Programmes – take a look and book early.

Diary of C2C – Holly Bailey

Here’s Holly Bailey’s diary of her Coast to Coast ride:

2nd August

Today we travelled to Tynemouth the finish of our ride. A minibus came to collect us to take us to the start  – Whitehaven. We slept the night in a hotel Glenfield guest house. We had our tea at a Wetherspoon pub.

3rd August

Ascent: 3480 ft

Riding – Today was the first ride of our C2C. It was 33 miles. A few hills not many though. We stopped to have our dinner in a lovely stop. You could see for miles. Fields and sheep. The valley. This was slightly more than half way round. We finished in Keswick at about half past three. We stayed in a bed and breakfast called Glencoe.

4th August

Ascent: 516 ft

Today was slightly shorter than yesterday only 28 miles. Which was nice because it was raining for three quarters of today. It did dry up at about 18 miles which was roughly about 12 ish. So for the last 10 miles we were OK. Half way round we stopped at a cycle cafe at Greystoke for a drink and to warm up – we were quite wet!!! Eventually we came to a place called Great Salkeld. We came to a B&B called Highland Drove Inn.

5th August

Ascent: 4248.6 ft

Today was the hardest day, 37 miles, although tomorrow is longer but is easier riding. Today we went up Hartside and Nenthead just outside of the little town of Garrigill. That was tiring!!! We took another road which was slightly off track to get to our new bed and breakfast quicker. It was called Cross Keys which is in the town of East Gate. I am so pleased that today’s over with because it was the hardest day. The little de-tour took the mileage down to 33 point something instead of 37 miles. I am looking forward to tomorrow, the final day … 🙂

6th August

Ascent: 2670.6 ft

Final day. Today was the longest 42 miles however the easiest riding. At the start coming out on East Gate, there was a 17% climb so Christine (who was the lady taking our bags to the next stop) gave us another option to go into Rookhope where there was a bridle path that we could take which would add few more miles on in total it came to 49.2 miles.

In Newcastle I saw lovely bridges. I counted 9 in total on of which had a rugby ball on it for the Rugby World Cup 2015 which is being hosted in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Another bridge which was opened in 2001, it cost £22,000 pounds. It was called Millennium Bridge. We stayed in a placed called Number 61 this is a tea room as well as a bed and breakfast. It was a lovely place! 🙂
